This movie falls completely flat. The characters fail to evoke any sympathy or interest, the plot is a mismanaged muddle, the jokes are awkward and unfunny, and the dialogue is abysmal. Jack Black positively chews the scenery. Cate Blanchette is miscast. And watching the actor who plays Lewis try to generate tears might be the only comedic success attained here. At no time was there any feeling of tension or danger. Another empty CGI cyclone of a film.

Ruinous treatment of a wonderful bookReviewed bymochie70Vote: 3/10
I was very excited to see this movie as I'm a fan of fantasy films, plus casting Jack Black and Cate Blanchett was icing on the cake. However, the movie lacked excitement. There were a lot of drawn out boring segments where I felt myself closing my eyes and drifting off a bit and that's rare for me during a movie. The previews made it look like it was going to be creatively exciting, but all the good parts were in the trailer. Since going to the movies these days can be costly, I say don't bother wasting your money.
I can't believe that this movie be comedy for family. My daughter is ten years old and she is really scared
