The Reviews for It's Alive (2008) 720p

That's what happens when you mess with the environment!Reviewed byLee EisenbergVote: 10/10

We humans may think that we can do anything without adverse results, but if only we knew! Mangling the environment is bound to blow up in our faces! And in "It's Alive!", does it ever! Frank (John Ryan) and Lenore Davies (Sharon Farrell) drive to the hospital to have their baby. There's just one problem: the new baby looks and acts like something out of a Wes Craven movie. Not only is the infant one mean mother, but the people hunting him are equally brutal: they focus on killing him rather than looking into why he ended up a monster. I've never seen any other of Larry Cohen's movies, but if "It's Alive!" is any indication, then he must turn out some neat movies.

One more thing: I have to admit that the only cast member whom I recognized was Michael Ansara, who played a cop. He was married to Barbara Eden for some years. So Jeannie's husband had to battle a psycho killer baby. Hmmm...

The problem with this film was not really the acting. It was the story and the thing that was suppose to scare the viewers. John P. Ryan plays the lead and for some reason, I really liked his performance. He just had the look and acting to really put the film on edge. His wife is played by Sharon Farrell, who at the right time could act. But sometimes she seemed a little off. The whole story line of this film is ridiculous. Woman gives birth to a baby that is mutated and it kills people. No real back story on how it happened. Maybe it was some drugs she was taking. The baby was suppose to scare you. But how can you be scared by something that reminds you of a small monkey of some sort. Some of the other cast was pretty cheesy including the son of Ryan of Farrell, but he was young and didn't know better. There needed to be more jumping scenes also. But every time one can up, they would trigger it with the baby crying or something moving. So that way you know it was coming. The movie overall was missing a lot, including a good ending. Maybe if they added more gore, it could of been more of a cult following than what it was. But most of the gore scenes were a few deep scratches from the babies strange sloth like nails.

Screw the negative reviews! If you're into Larry Cohen movies, you willmost certainly enjoy this one. Sure it's cheezy, sure it's unbelievable, but nevertheless, it's fun!

What few realize is that this film was intended as a spoof of sorts on RomanPolanski's film, "ROSEMARY'S BABY". You cannot watch this, or either ofit's sequels, expecting to take things completely seriously.

John P. Ryan, who plays Frank Davis, is great in this. Ryan, in my opinion,is a terrific actor and is always worth watching. Cohen employed thetalents of legendary composer, Bernard Herrmann, to score this film. Thescore, being one of Herrmann's last compositions, is truly tremendous andgives the film it's essential monster movie feel. Rumor has it thatHerrmann passed on an opportunity to score William Friedkin's mainstreamhorror film, "THE EXORCIST", in favor of this independentproject.

If you're looking for a great exploitation epic from the grand ol' days of'70s cinema, you won't be disappointed. The sequels, "IT LIVES AGAIN" and"IT'S ALIVE III: ISLAND OF THE ALIVE", are also worth alook.
